Ghent 2084 is the theme of the project week Airis Week which is organized for all bachelor students of the Communication, Media and Design courses at Arteveldehogeschool.

The students are asked to imagine Ghent in 2084: In which city (Ghent) would you like to live in 2084? How should it be set up?

Here is the word want very important. It is not the intention is that they try to imaginatively predict all (technological) possibilities of the future. By a wish We limit “what is possible” and “what will be” while at the same time emphasizing the opportunities that the future offers. After all, the students are the builders of the world of tomorrow.

We choose the year 2084 because it allows great creative freedom in a utopian context. A separate working group will also bethe Orwell group”, under the guidance of our ethics teacher, build a centenary bridge to 1984 (George Orwell) to reflect philosophically and ethically.

The students are divided into multidisciplinary groups 36 “architectural firms for the future”. Every architectural firm will consider one future domain such as governance, energy, housing, security, healthcare, trade, waste management, education, transport, culture... Together they will answer one question per domain over the period of a week.

During the project week, the students receive lectures in which they are offered expertise from representatives of the domain in which they will work. In addition, they will work in their teams to develop a real solution that they will publish on this website.

The week starts on Monday with a plenary inspiring keynote session and ends with a closing event on Friday, organized by the students themselves. All results are presented and some prizes for achievements during the week are awarded.

The Airis Week 2024 will take place from February 12 to 16, 2024 on the campus at Leeuwstraat 1 in Ghent.
